Today, Tuesday 17th November, Friends, Families and Travellers (FFT) are pleased to share a new publication ‘How to tackle health inequalities in Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities: A guide for health and care services’.
Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities are known to face some of the most severe health inequalities and poor life outcomes amongst the United Kingdom population, even when compared with other ethnic minorities and other groups experiencing exclusion. These health inequalities are unjust and avoidable.
The new resource provides an overview of the key health inequalities faced by people from Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities, practical steps healthcare services can take to address these, examples of good practice from across the country and links to useful resources.
The guide was developed by Friends, Families and Travellers to support Clinical Commissioning Groups, NHS Provider Trusts, Primary Care Networks, local authorities, Sustainability and Transformation Partnerships and Integrated Care Systems wanting to engage with Gypsy and Traveller communities and anyone implementing the NHS Long Term Plan in local areas.
Speaking about the release, Sarah Sweeney, Policy and Communications Manager at Friends, Families and Travellers said:
“The severe health inequalities faced by Gypsy, Roma and Traveller people in the UK are unjust and avoidable. We hope that this guide will give health and care services the information they need to make a real change to the health and wellbeing of Gypsy, Roma and Traveller people within their local community. We can and should act now to make a difference.”
