Information about carers and what support is available.
Carers help people, usually disabled or older people, with everyday tasks such as:
- Washing and dressing
- Travelling around, e.g. to appointments
- Shopping
- Helping with finances
- Being with someone to keep them company
- Providing emotional support
- To apply for a carer's needs assessment, you can contact adult social services at your local council.
- A carer's needs assessment might provide you with extra support, such as someone to assist with caring to give you a break, a gym membership to help relieve stress or help with taxi fares if you don't drive.
- You might also be given advice on benefits for carers. For more information see our advice page on benefits.
