Support for Carers

Information about carers and what support is available.

Carers help people, usually disabled or older people, with everyday tasks such as:

  • Washing and dressing
  • Travelling around, e.g. to appointments
  • Shopping
  • Helping with finances
  • Being with someone to keep them company
  • Providing emotional support
  • To apply for a carer's needs assessment, you can contact adult social services at your local council.
  • A carer's needs assessment might provide you with extra support, such as someone to assist with caring to give you a break, a gym membership to help relieve stress or help with taxi fares if you don't drive.
  • You might also be given advice on benefits for carers. For more information see our advice page on benefits.
