  • Life insurance can pay a set amount toward funeral costs.
  • Check if they had an insurance policy or savings that can help.

Payment plan

  • Many funeral homes offer payment plans.
  • This means you can pay in smaller amounts over time instead of all at once.
  • Ask the funeral home if they offer payment options.

Local charities or community help

  • Some charities and churches can help with funeral costs.
  • Local community groups may also support families in need.
  • Ask a social worker or search online for groups in your area.

Collect important information

Gather the following:

  • The death certificate
  • Proof of your benefits (if you get any)
  • Details of the funeral expenses

Claim Funeral Expenses Payment by phone

  • Ring the the Bereavement Service helpline.
  • Print and send or fill in this form.
  • Ask for a form at your local Jobcentre.

Talk to the funeral director

  • Funeral directors can help you understand the costs.
  • They can also suggest affordable options.

Plan ahead if possible
