Who can get a U.K. passport?

You can get a UK passport if:

  • You were born in the UK.
  • You are British by descent:
    • This usually means one of your parents is a British citizen.
  • You are a naturalised British citizen.

What do I need to apply for your first UK passport?

You will need:

  • If born in the UK:
    • An official copy of your birth certificate.
  • If British by descent:
    • One of your parent's passport details.
  • If a naturalised British citizen:
    • Your naturalisation or registration certificate and original passport.

How to apply for or renew your UK passport

There are various ways to apply for a passport, including:

  • Applying  online
    • It costs £88.50 to apply for a passport online.
  • Posting form.
    • It costs £100 to apply by post.
    • You can pick up a paper copy from your local Post Office.
    • You can also get help with your online application from the Post Office.

How long will it take?

  • Most passports arrive within 3 weeks after the documents are received.
  • It may take longer if:
    • More information is needed.
    • You need to attend an interview.

How to apply for a child UK passport

  • A child passport is for children under 16.
  • Online applications cost £57.50.
  • Paper applications cost £69.
  • You will need to have parental responsibility to apply for a child passport.

Do you need a passport quickly?

Here are some options:

  1. 1-Day Premium Service
    • Book an appointment online.
    • Your passport will be ready at the appointment.
    • Costs £207.50 (not available for child passports).
  2. 1-Week Fast Track
    • Book an appointment online.
    • Your passport will arrive within a week after the appointment.
    • Costs £166.50 (or £135.50 for a child passport).

Who an get an Irish passport?

You can get an Irish passport if:

  • You were born in Ireland.
  • You are of Irish descent (parent or grandparent born in Ireland).
  • You are a naturalised Irish citizen.

What do you need to apply for your first Irish passport?

You will need:

  • Online through Passport Online.
    • It costs €75 if you live in Ireland.
    • It costs the same with a €15 postage if you live outside Ireland.
  • Via post through Post Passport.
  •  It costs €80 and a €9.50 fee for 1 application
    • Or a €16 fee for a Family Application for up to 4 applications.

How long does it take to get your Irish passport?

  • Online applications usually take 20 working days.
  • Postal applications take at least 8 weeks to be processed.

  • For children under 18.
  • You can apply online
    • Online applications cost €20 + a €5 postage fee.
  • You can apply via post
    • Postal applications cost €30 + a €9.50 postage fee.

    • Book an appointment 3 days in advance.
    • Costs €150.
  2. 4-5 Day Service
    • Book an appointment 3 weeks in advance.
    • Costs €75.
    • Available in Dublin, Cork, and London.
